“That was my fault”: Chase Elliott issues apology as star driver walks out of scary crash
Chase Elliott, while talking to reporters after the race, took the full burden for the violent crash that collected Christopher Bell during the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Points leader Tyler Reddick — who won five of the first nine races of 2026, was wrecked on a mid-race restart when fifth-place finisher Carson Hocevar gave John Hunter Nemechek an unnecessarily aggressive bump. Reddick was forced to retire from the race after a hard hit with the inside wall. It is his first finish outside the top 15 all season.
As a part of Chase Elliott's charitable "DESI9GN TO DRIVE" program, he will sport a custom kid-drawn paint scheme at this summer's Atlanta Night Race.
The program began in 2017 as a collaboration between Elliott’s foundation, NAPA Auto Parts, Hendrick Motorsports and CHOA.
