Quebec's premier announced plans to resign on Wednesday, months ahead of an election that could see a separatist party return to power in the French-speaking province.A resurgent Parti Quebecois (PQ) has consistently led the polls ahead of a provincial election set for October.

Public school district data obtained by CBC News shows the rate of school absenteeism has grown across the country in elementary and secondary schools over the last few years. And Quebec is no different.

One day after Quebec Premier François Legault said he would resign ahead of the October election, at least one high-profile minister has come out publicly to say she is considering a bid to replace him.

Family physicians reached an agreement with the Quebec government that delays the implementation of a controversial bill that tied physician pay to performance targets.

The rate of school absenteeism has grown over the last few years, according to public school district data obtained by CBC News. Some kids are now relying on organizations after missing months, even years of school.

The controversial Quebec legislation passed late last year to, in part, overhaul doctor compensation was blasted by physicians, with some MDs departing the province or threatening to. What followed this backlash was a backtrack, which saw a new tentative deal with language toned down and incentives offered.

Despite unanimous objection from Quebec’s National Assembly and a government willing to take the matter to the Supreme Court, Quebec’s electoral boundaries commission says it will go ahead with a redrawn electoral map that eliminates a riding in the Gaspé Peninsula and another in Montreal to reflect shifting demographics.
